How to get into Business Psychology - Call Surrey

job shadow opportunities

Opportunity Overview

Business Psychology is one of the most popular areas to study, but it's one of the most confusing to understand in terms of the career path and the sorts of jobs you can do after. Does it feed into HR? Do you become self employed? What are the things you can do and how do you work? These are all questions I can help you answer. Business Psychology is one of the most fascinating things you can do - I love my work and if you are intrigued and fascinated about psychology - how we think, feel and behave, then maybe this is a career option for you?

What you will learn

  • Qualifications?
It can be quite confusing - there are some courses BPS accredited, what is the ABP? Do you need chartership? I can share what I think the market is looking for and what you should expect. It is (more than many industries) one which really benefits from you having worked in a previous sector, so it's a great career to transition into.
  • What can you earn?
You want to know - so I'll help manage your expectations. It is the case some people enter the profession and can earn £100K+ in a very short time. Most of the time, this doesn't happen and I'll talk through what you can expect on entering.
  • What does a business psychologist do?
Business Psychology is a relatively new field. 200 years ago it wasn't a profession. Things only really got started after World War 2, so on that basis, the profession is changing and evolving all the time. That is part of the beauty, but it is also quite hard to visualise what a business psychologist does. I'll talk through a typical week, but also explain how my role (consultant) will differ to someone who works in house (typically within a large corporate)
  • What about you?
The beauty of a call is the two way nature of the interaction! As a psychologist, I'm obviously interested in you and why you might want to do this, so think about this before the call.
  • What are the main skills
I'll share how I divide my time so you'll get to see what skills I use the most and what (although essential) I may not use that regularly. I can also explain how skills will differ if you are working in a consultancy or in a larger corporate.
